April 10th was the day after the Leafs won Game 1 of the best-of-seven series against Philadelphia. Charlotte dressed like I wished I could have...pair of jeans and a Maple Leafs jersey.
Her hair is long enough that it covers the KOCH across the shoulders, so I tied her hair into a pony-tail for her and sent her to school for the day. She looked great.
When I went to pick the kids up from school that afternoon I could not help but notice (and comment) that Charlotte with her hair pulled back, she looks a lot like Gareth. They asked why?
I gave the typical parent response, "You have the same Mummy and Daddy. That is why you look so much alike."
They looked dubious. So I decided to offer my likeness as an example.
(As an aside - I have one of the most ordinary faces I know. I have 4 sisters and 2 brothers. I grew up in a home full of faces just like mine. When I was in highschool, my best friend and his sister attended a family function that included my sibs and all of my cousins who live in Canada. The next day she told her mum, "It was scary. An entire room full of MICKI.")
I asked the kids, "Do I look like Aunt Marlene?"
"No, not really."
"Do I look like Aunt Muriel?"
"No, not really."
"How about Aunt Melanie?"
"Maybe a little. Your hair looks like hers." (Our hair is nothing alike btw)
"I know. How about Uncle Martin? Do you think I look like Uncle Martin?"
"Yeah!" says Gareth "You both have BIG ears and a BIG nose."
Apparently I look like my father too;-)
NOTE TO FILE: Always be sure to have this kind of conversation in a crowded hallway or other *very* public location.
